Linear Cherry MX2A Red Mechanical Key Switch with 2.0 mm Actuation and 100 Million Actuation Life
The SparkFun Cherry MX2A Red is a linear mechanical key switch designed for custom keyboards, replacement keyboard assemblies, and embedded human-machine interfaces. It provides a smooth, uninterrupted keypress without a tactile bump or audible click, making it well-suited for gaming, rapid repeated keystrokes, and applications requiring consistent key movement. The switch has a 2.0 mm actuation point and 4.0 mm total travel while maintaining compatibility with standard Cherry MX keycaps and PCBs.
The MX2A generation incorporates factory-applied lubrication, an optimised precision coil spring and refined housing geometry to improve key travel and reduce spring noise. Gold crosspoint contacts provide corrosion resistance and reliable electrical switching, while the housing uses a polymer and glass-fibre construction to support the internal mechanism and keyboard mounting. A built-in recess accommodates a standard 3 mm LED for optional key illumination, and the switch is rated for more than 100 million actuations for long-term keyboard and control-interface use.
