RedHobby AM32 40A Bidirectional Brushless ESC for 2-4S LiPo - 6V 2A BEC Open-Source Speed Controller for RC Drones and Vehicles
The RedHobby AM32 40A Bidirectional Brushless Electronic Speed Controller is an open-source firmware-driven speed controller rated at 40A continuous, positioned between the 30A and 60A variants in the RedHobby AM32 ESC range, and well-suited for RC drones and ground vehicles where mid-to-high current demands, bidirectional motor control, and AM32 firmware configurability are primary selection criteria. Running the AM32 open-source firmware, this ESC supports DSHOT digital signal protocols, RPM telemetry output, and full parameter configuration through the AM32 Configurator PC interface, covering motor timing advance, demag compensation, active freewheeling, and throttle endpoint calibration on a per-unit basis. The firmware's active community development cycle ensures ongoing updates and feature additions without dependence on a proprietary manufacturer's firmware release schedule, giving builders access to current-generation ESC features across the supported RC drone and vehicle platform range.
The bidirectional motor control capability enables electronic forward and reverse motor rotation without manual phase-swap rewiring, making this ESC directly applicable to RC ground vehicles, surface boats, and other platforms where reversing drive direction through the transmitter is a standard operational requirement alongside the drone and multirotor applications where AM32 firmware and DSHOT protocol support are the primary selection drivers. The integrated 6V / 2A BEC output delivers regulated power to the receiver rail at a voltage level suitable for receivers paired with higher-voltage digital servos and onboard FPV or auxiliary electronics, without requiring a separate BEC module in most RC drone and vehicle builds. At 40A continuous on a 2-4S LiPo input spanning 7.4V to 14.8V, this ESC covers the sustained current demands of mid-size brushless motors across drone, car, boat, and multi-platform builds where the 30A class falls short of the motor's sustained draw and the 60A class represents unnecessary overhead for the application.
