Description

The MPU-6000/MPU-6050 family of products are the first and only 6-axis MotionTracking devices specifically designed to meet the high performance, low power, and low cost requirements of smartphones, tablets, and wearable sensors.

These devices combine a 3-axis gyroscope and a 3-axis accelerometer on a single silicon die, along with an onboard Digital Motion Processor (DMP) capable of processing complex 9-axis MotionFusion algorithms. The integrated 9-axis MotionFusion algorithms can access external magnetometers or other sensors through an auxiliary master I2C bus, enabling the devices to gather a complete set of sensor data without intervention from the system processor.

The 6 Degrees of Freedom (DOF) sensor breakout is designed to work with the MPU6050 sensor, featuring a low-noise 3.3V regulator and pull-up resistors for the I2C bus. This makes it easy to connect the sensor directly to Arduino processors for use in robotics, HCI, and wearable projects. By using the Arduino library from i2cdevlib, driving the sensor and retrieving pitch, roll, yaw, quaternion, and euler data is straightforward.

An inertial measurement unit (IMU) is an electronic device that utilizes a combination of accelerometers, gyroscopes, and magnetometers to measure and report on a craft's velocity, orientation, and gravitational forces. Nowadays, IMUs are widely utilized in Human-computer interaction (HCI), navigation, and balancing technology, such as that found in the Segway Personal Transporter, as we are all familiar with.
