VL53L0X Time-of-Flight Distance Sensor HAT with Up to 2 m Range
The M5Stack U072 HAT ToF is a compact, high-precision laser distance sensor expansion board designed for the M5StickC series. It integrates the ST VL53L0X Time-of-Flight ranging sensor with a 940 nm VCSEL emitter to measure the absolute distance to a target by calculating the travel time of emitted infrared light. This sensing method provides reliable distance measurements across a range of target surfaces and is well suited to applications requiring non-contact ranging and obstacle detection.
The module supports a measurement range of 0.3 m to 2 m with ±3% measurement accuracy and communicates with the host through I2C at address 0x29. The SDA and SCL lines connect to GPIO0 and GPIO26, respectively, on compatible M5StickC hardware. The sensor can measure distance in less than 30 ms under supported operating conditions. A maximum range of approximately 2 m requires Long Range mode and a dark environment without infrared interference, while M5Stack specifies a normal maximum test distance of around 120 cm. Support for UiFlow1, UiFlow2, and Arduino IDE simplifies development for ranging, gesture, robotics, and sensing projects.
