Compact Solid State Air Velocity Sensor For Fast And Accurate Airflow Measurement In Embedded Systems

Gravity PAV3015 air velocity sensor is a high performance solid state anemometer designed for precise and responsive airflow measurement in embedded and industrial applications. It is based on the Posifa PAV3015D sensor which uses the thermopile measurement principle to calculate air velocity by detecting temperature differences caused by airflow. This approach eliminates moving parts and provides higher reliability compared to traditional cup or vane anemometers.

The sensor measures air velocity from zero to fifteen metres per second with plus or minus five percent full scale accuracy and an exceptionally fast response time of one hundred twenty five milliseconds. With low power consumption of around ten milliampere and a wide three point three volt to five volt operating range it integrates easily into microcontroller based systems. The Gravity I2C interface makes it ideal for server cooling monitoring HVAC systems UAV airspeed detection and other airflow sensitive designs.

Key Features

  • Solid State Thermopile Sensing Technology
Measures airflow using temperature differentials with no moving parts
  • Wide Air Velocity Measurement Range
    Supports airflow measurement from 0-15m/s
  • Fast Response Time
Typical response time of 125milliseconds for real time monitoring
  • Low Power Operation
Consumes approximately 10mA for energy efficient designs
  • Gravity I2C Interface
Simplifies integration with Arduino ESP32 and other embedded controllers

Compact Form Factor for Integrated Systems

The PAV3015's thermal design eliminates the bulk of standard cup-and-vane anemometers. Its small footprint is a significant advantage, allowing smooth integration into smaller devices, embedded systems, and portable equipment where space is limited. This enables airflow measurement capabilities in applications previously limited by sensor size.

High-Accuracy Measurement with Rapid Response

The PAV3015 provides dependable and exact air velocity readings over the whole 0-15 m/s range. With an accuracy of +-5% F.S, this wind speed sensor provides reliable data for crucial monitoring. Furthermore, its usual response time of 125 ms guarantees quick detection of airflow changes, making it ideal for real-time feedback loops, system alerts, and dynamic control systems.

Simplified Integration with Gravity I2C

This I2C anemometer is equipped with the standard DFRobot Gravity I2C interface, allowing for a simple, plug-and-play installation. It provides a wide 3.3V to 5V power supply range, ensuring native compatibility with popular microcontrollers including Arduino, ESP32, and Raspberry Pi. This standardized interface hastens prototyping and streamlines final project assembly.

Optimized for Low-Power Applications

The anemometer is designed to be energy efficient, operating on as little as 10 mA of electricity. This low-power profile makes it a good choice for battery-powered systems, remote monitoring stations, or portable measuring devices, such as handheld anemometers or sports equipment, where power conservation is an important design requirement.

Applications

Data Center and Electronics Cooling: Real-time airflow monitoring within server racks or electronic cabinets to minimize overheating and maintain stability.

  • Smart HVAC Systems: Airflow velocity is measured inside ventilation ducts to improve energy efficiency and air distribution in smart buildings.
  • UAVs & Drones: Including a lightweight, compact airspeed meter to ensure stable flight control and performance monitoring.
  • Portable Measurement Devices: Creating battery-powered instruments, such as bicycle anemometers or environmental monitors, that require both precision and energy efficiency.
