Description
The TMF8801 is a time-of-flight (ToF) distance sensor that uses the difference in time between light pulses to measure the distance to an object. It provides single zone detection regardless of the color, reflectivity, or texture of the object. The sensor has a range of 2-250cm and offers high accuracy within +/- 5%. It is capable of operating in both dark and well-lit environments, thanks to its built-in histogram for dynamic cover glass calibration and crosstalk compensation, as well as on-chip sunlight rejection filters that minimize background light noise. The TMF8801 outputs data through a fast-mode I2C communication interface and an integrated microcontroller with all the necessary algorithms on-chip, eliminating the need for external optics.
