Aluminium Alloy Heat Sink and Fan Cooling System for 540, 550, 3650, and 3660 RC Vehicle Motors - Lightweight 20g Active Forced-Air Motor Cooling for RC Car and Truck Builds
The Aluminium Alloy Heat Sink and Fan Cooling System is a compact, lightweight active motor cooling assembly designed for 540, 550, 3650, and 3660 class RC vehicle motors, providing combined conductive heat sink and forced-air fan cooling to prevent motor overheating during sustained high-load, full-throttle, and high-ambient-temperature RC car and truck operation. At approximately 20 grams total assembly weight, this cooling system is substantially lighter than heavier aluminum heat sink and fan combinations in the same motor compatibility class, making it a low-penalty thermal management addition for weight-sensitive 1/10 scale RC builds where every gram of added chassis weight has a measurable effect on handling, acceleration, and motor loading. The 35mm inside diameter accommodates the can diameters of 540, 550, 3650, and 3660 motors within the standard size range used across the majority of 1/10 scale RC car and truck platforms, and the 30 x 30mm fan face provides adequate airflow coverage across the heat sink fin area for effective convective heat dissipation at typical 5V RC receiver supply voltage fan speeds.
The aluminium alloy heat sink body clamps directly onto the motor can surface, establishing metal-to-metal thermal contact across the contact area for conductive heat transfer from the motor can into the higher-surface-area heat sink structure, where the integrated fan then accelerates convective dissipation by moving air across the exposed fin surfaces. This combined conductive-plus-convective active cooling approach is significantly more effective at sustaining low motor operating temperatures under continuous load than either passive aluminium contact alone or fan-only cooling without a heat sink body, particularly in the sustained low-speed high-torque driving profiles of rock crawlers and trail trucks, where motor heat accumulates continuously without the natural forced airflow available to motors in high-speed on-road applications. The easy install and remove design allows the heat sink and fan assembly to be transferred between motor builds or removed for maintenance without tools or permanent modification to the motor or chassis, and the aluminium alloy plus plastic construction balances thermal conductivity, structural rigidity, and weight across the 20-gram total assembly target.
