SparkFun IoT RedBoard – RP2350: Dual-Architecture Wireless Development Platform

The SparkFun IoT RedBoard – RP2350 combines the cutting-edge Raspberry Pi RP2350 microcontroller with the Raspberry Pi RM2 wireless module, creating a powerful IoT-ready development board in the Arduino R4 form factor. Designed for versatility and modern connectivity, it supports WiFi 4, Bluetooth 5.2 (BDR & EDR), and BLE, making it an excellent platform for IoT devices, robotics, edge computing, and prototyping. The RP2350B at the heart of this board offers a unique dual-core, dual-architecture system where developers can choose at boot between:

  • Two Arm Cortex-M33 cores
  • Two Hazard3 RISC-V cores
  • One Cortex-M33 + One Hazard3 RISC-V

This flexibility allows tailoring processing power and architecture to specific project requirements. Running at up to 150 MHz, the MCU also provides 48 GPIO, eight ADCs, dual UART/SPI/I2C interfaces, USB 1.1 host/device, 24 PWM channels, and 12 PIO state machines for extensive hardware interfacing. Memory resources include 520kB of integrated SRAM, plus 16MB external Flash and 8MB PSRAM for advanced applications. A built-in uSD card slot further extends storage options. Developers also benefit from Qwiic compatibility, an HSTX high-speed transmit connector, and on-board battery charging and monitoring (MCP73831 LiPo charger + MAX17048 fuel gauge).
