SparkFun GNSS Flex pHAT – mosaic-X5: High-Precision GNSS Development Platform for Raspberry Pi

The SparkFun GNSS Flex pHAT – mosaic-X5 is a professional-grade GNSS development platform designed to interface with Raspberry Pi and other 40-pin SBCs while carrying the SparkPNT GNSS Flex Module with Septentrio’s mosaic-X5 receiver. Leveraging the modular GNSS Flex system, the pHAT provides seamless pin-compatible integration, ensuring simplified upgrades, repairs, and flexible development workflows. Equipped with the Septentrio mosaic-X5, this module delivers multi-band, multi-constellation, RTK-enabled GNSS performance with horizontal accuracy of 6mm, vertical accuracy of 1cm, and 5ns timing precision. It supports GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, NavIC, QZSS, and SBAS augmentation (WAAS, EGNOS, GAGAN, MSAS, SDCM). Its AIM+ interference mitigation and anti-spoofing technology ensures robust operation even in challenging environments such as dense urban areas or areas with high RF noise.

The GNSS Flex pHAT breaks out USB, four UARTs, SD card, PPS, and event signals to the Raspberry Pi header, while also offering U.FL/SMA antenna options, a Qwiic connector, and µSD card socket for easy expansion. The mosaic-X5’s Ethernet PHY is accessible via an additional 20-pin header, enabling full use of its integrated web server interface, compatible with any web browser. Users also have the option of command-line control, making it suitable for both production testing and remote access. By default, the system communicates through the Pi’s primary UART bus, but advanced users may take advantage of the other available interfaces. With a 100 Hz update rate, 10ms latency, configurable PPS out, and advanced timing features, this platform is ideal for RTK navigation, precision robotics, geospatial surveys, scientific research, and timing-critical IoT applications.
