PESD5V0L1BA,115 Bidirectional ESD Protection Diode 5V 33V Clamp SOD-323 - 500W Peak Pulse Power, 30kV ESD, IEC 61000-4-2 Level 4 for Single Signal Line Protection

The PESD5V0L1BA,115 is a bidirectional electrostatic discharge protection diode in a compact SOD-323 (SC-76) surface-mount package, designed to protect a single signal line from damage caused by ESD events, electrical fast transients, and surge pulses in computers and peripherals, communication systems, audio and video equipment, and data line interfaces. The bidirectional configuration allows the diode to clamp both positive and negative transient voltage excursions on the protected signal line to within the 33V clamping voltage without requiring separate unidirectional diodes for each polarity, making it directly applicable to AC-coupled, differential, and alternating-polarity signal lines as well as standard single-ended DC signal lines where ESD events can arrive from either the positive or negative direction relative to ground. The 5V working voltage (VWM) is matched to 5V logic signal lines, USB data lines, RS-232 and RS-485 communication interfaces, and other 5V-level signal standards where the diode remains in its high-impedance off state during normal signal operation and transitions to its low-impedance clamping state only when a transient voltage exceeds the rated working voltage threshold.

The 500W maximum peak pulse power rating and 15A surge peak pulse current (IPPM) to IEC 61000-4-5 confirm the diode's capability to absorb the energy of real-world ESD and surge events without device damage or degradation of protection performance across repeated transient exposures. IEC 61000-4-2 Level 4 compliance - the highest severity level in the IEC 61000-4-2 ESD immunity standard - certifies the PESD5V0L1BA,115 for protection against contact discharge events up to 8kV and air discharge events up to 15kV at the standard's most stringent test condition, with the diode's 30kV ESD protection rating extending beyond the IEC 61000-4-2 Level 4 test voltage for additional protection margin in severe ESD exposure environments. The ultra-low leakage current of 0.01uA at rated working voltage minimises the diode's impact on signal integrity and quiescent power consumption on protected data and communication lines where leakage-induced signal loading and power drain are design constraints. The SOD-323 package provides a small SMD footprint for placement close to the protected connector or signal line entry point on the PCB, minimising the parasitic inductance of the PCB trace between the signal line and the ESD protection diode that reduces clamping effectiveness at high-frequency transient rise times.

Key Features

  • Protection Type: Bidirectional ESD protection for single signal line clamping of both positive and negative transient voltage excursions without separate diodes per polarity
  • Working Voltage (VWM): 5V for 5V logic, USB, RS-232, RS-485, and other 5V-level signal line normal operation without diode conduction
  • Clamping Voltage (VCL): 33V maximum clamping voltage for transient voltage limitation to a safe level for protected downstream circuit components
  • Peak Pulse Power (PPPM): 500W maximum peak pulse power for energy absorption capability across IEC 61000-4-2 and IEC 61000-4-5 test-level transient events
  • ESD Protection Rating: Up to 30kV ESD protection for high-severity ESD exposure environments beyond IEC 61000-4-2 Level 4 test voltage
  • IEC 61000-4-2 Level 4 Compliance: Highest IEC 61000-4-2 ESD immunity severity level for contact discharge up to 8kV and air discharge up to 15kV
  • IEC 61000-4-5 Surge Compliance: 15A peak pulse surge current (IPPM) to IEC 61000-4-5 surge immunity standard
  • Ultra-Low Leakage Current: 0.01uA maximum leakage current (IRM) for minimal signal loading and quiescent power impact on protected data and communication signal lines
  • Package: SOD-323 (SC-76) surface-mount for compact PCB placement close to the protected connector or signal line entry point
  • Bidirectional Configuration: Single device handles both positive and negative ESD polarity protection on AC-coupled, differential, and single-ended signal lines
  • Low Clamping Voltage: 33V clamp voltage for effective downstream component protection within common 5V-logic and communication IC absolute maximum voltage ratings

Applications

  • USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 data line ESD protection on computer, peripheral, and embedded system PCBs requiring IEC 61000-4-2 Level 4 bidirectional single-line protection
  • RS-232 and RS-485 communication interface signal line ESD protection in industrial automation, instrumentation, and embedded communication system designs
  • Computer and peripheral interface signal line protection against ESD events from user contact, cable plug-in, and electrostatic discharge in uncontrolled environments
  • Audio and video equipment signal input and output line ESD protection requires bidirectional 5V working voltage clamping in consumer and professional equipment designs
