The microwave radar sensor utilizes radio waves to detect distance by transmitting and receiving signals. It offers several advantages compared to other types of range and distance sensors, including a compact size, light weight, and a wide detection range. Additionally, this sensor maintains a consistent performance even in harsh environments and can penetrate various non-metallic materials, as well as substances like dust, smoke, and fog. Moreover, it is capable of detecting the distance of multiple targets simultaneously.
Specifically, this sensor is a K-band millimeter wave ranging radar equipped with separate transmitter and receiver antennas. Its operating principle is straightforward: it sends out microwaves and measures the distance to the surface of an object by receiving the reflected waves. The sensor supports Frequency-Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) modulation. All the necessary signal processing units are integrated into the product, enabling users to obtain distance measurements directly through the Asynchronous Serial Interface. If multiple targets need to be detected or distance spectral information needs to be processed for special applications, users can modify the working mode accordingly.
The microwave radar sensor employs ASI communication, operating at a baud rate of 57600 bits per second and utilizing a 3.3V TTL logic level. This enables direct communication with an upper computer or other microcontroller units (MCUs), significantly reducing the development cycle.
By integrating this sensor with controllers like Arduino, users can unleash its practical and powerful functionalities. It can be utilized in various applications such as car reverse backup radar systems, automatic door openers, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), passenger flow detection systems, and collision-preventing devices.
