The ICL3223IAZ is a 3V to 5.5V powered RS-232 interface transceiver IC designed to meet EIA/TIA-232 and V.28/V.24 specifications while maintaining ultra-low power consumption. Featuring two drivers and two receivers, it enables reliable serial communication in portable and space-constrained systems such as notebooks, PDAs, and embedded devices. With an on-chip charge pump requiring only four external 0.1µF capacitors, the ICL3223IAZ simplifies PCB design while ensuring efficient voltage conversion. It supports automatic power-down, reducing standby current to as low as 1µA, conserving power in battery-powered applications. The device guarantees data rates of 250kbps and includes receiver hysteresis for improved noise immunity. Packaged in a compact 20-pin SSOP, it offers drop-in compatibility with industry-standard devices such as MAX3223, MAX3232, and SP3243, making it a flexible upgrade for existing RS-232 designs.
