Ultra-Low Power Fuel Gauge IC for Non-Rechargeable Lithium Batteries with End-of-Service Monitoring

The BQ35100PWR is a highly configurable battery fuel gauge designed specifically for non-rechargeable (primary) lithium batteries. Developed by Texas Instruments, this device provides accurate fuel gauging and end-of-service monitoring without requiring a forced battery discharge. It uses advanced proprietary gauging algorithms to track battery capacity and health, enabling reliable monitoring even when batteries are replaced in the system without complex recalibration.

The IC measures voltage, current, and temperature parameters to calculate battery state-of-health and predict end-of-service conditions. With ultra-low average power consumption, the BQ35100 can operate with less than 2 uA when controlled through the GAUGE ENABLE (GE) pin, making it ideal for long-life battery-powered systems. The device communicates with the host microcontroller via a 400 kHz I2C interface and provides an ALERT output for interrupt-driven notifications, ensuring efficient system power management and battery monitoring in industrial and IoT devices.

Key Features

  • Designed for Non-Rechargeable Lithium Batteries – Optimised for primary lithium battery monitoring.
  • End-of-Service (EOS) Monitoring – Provides early warning when battery capacity approaches depletion.
  • Advanced Fuel Gauging Algorithms – Accurate capacity estimation without forced battery discharge.
  • Ultra-Low Power Consumption – Average current can be reduced to less than 2 uA using the GE control pin.
  • Voltage, Current, and Temperature Monitoring – Enables accurate battery health calculations.
  • State-of-Health Reporting – Provides battery aging and performance information.
  • I2C Communication Interface – 400 kHz bus allows easy integration with microcontrollers.
  • Configurable ALERT Output – Interrupt-based notification for battery status events.
  • Compact TSSOP-14 Package – Suitable for space-efficient embedded system designs.
