UPS Expansion HAT for LattePanda Sigma – Reliable Backup Power for Continuous Operation: Ensure stability for critical IoT, server, and edge applications
The UPS Expansion HAT for LattePanda Sigma is a dedicated power backup module designed to guarantee uninterrupted performance of the LattePanda Sigma x86 Windows/Linux SBC server. Built to house four 18650 lithium-ion batteries, it delivers seamless power continuity during sudden outages, safeguarding data integrity and system stability in mission-critical environments. With support for dual power input options – Type-C PD (20V, 100W) and 5.5×2.5mm DC jack (19–24V,90W) – this UPS HAT provides flexibility for diverse deployment scenarios. It leverages energy-efficient direct battery power and supports automatic power switching via HID-UPS protocol, ensuring smooth transitions without disruptions. Developers can take advantage of open-source Arduino integration, enabling customization of UPS behaviour to suit unique project needs. With its compact, stackable design, this UPS HAT is perfect for IoT systems, robotics, edge computing, and embedded servers where stability and reliability are paramount.
Key Features:
Automatic Power Switching with HID-UPS Protocol
When external power is cut off, the UPS instantly switches to battery power, protecting the LattePanda Sigma against harm from unexpected outages. Operating systems perceive the module as a battery device thanks to its compatibility for the HID-UPS protocol, which makes system power management features like automatic shutdown and power-saving modes possible. This feature improves operational efficiency in power-sensitive conditions and mimics the behavior of a laptop's internal battery.
Open-Source Arduino Integration for Customization
The UPS uses Arduino to implement the HID-UPS interface, and the code is completely open source. This allows users to create unique battery management algorithms, optimize energy consumption, and establish charging voltage limitations to extend battery life.
Energy-Efficient Direct Battery Power
Unlike traditional UPS systems, the LattePanda Sigma is powered directly by its four 18650 batteries, reducing energy losses caused by boost or buck circuits. This efficient design extends battery life, allowing for up to 8 hours of continuous operation under ordinary settings. It provides consistent performance throughout extended outages, making it perfect for applications that require continuous uptime.
