The TPS62840DLCR from Texas Instruments is an ultra-low-power, high-efficiency 750mA step-down (buck) converter optimized for battery-powered and energy-sensitive applications. Operating over an input voltage range of 1.8V to 6.5V, it supports a wide variety of power sources such as 1S–2S Li-Ion/Li-SOCl2, 2S–4S Alkaline, and 1S–2S Li-MnO2 batteries. Engineered with DCS-Control topology, the TPS62840 delivers clean, low-noise power suitable for RF systems and precision sensors. It operates at a typical switching frequency of 1.8MHz, allowing small external components while maintaining excellent transient response. With an ultra-low quiescent current of just 60nA, and only 120nA in 100% duty-cycle mode, the device maximizes battery life—even near the end of discharge. The converter automatically transitions between PFM and PWM modes to optimize efficiency across a wide load range. Additionally, the STOP mode completely halts switching to eliminate noise during sensitive measurements. Users can easily select from 16 predefined output voltages using a single resistor on the VSET pin, simplifying design and minimizing external components.
