TPS61023DRLR – Boost Switching Regulator IC 3A SOT-563-6

The TPS61023DRLR from Texas Instruments is a compact, high-efficiency synchronous boost DC-DC converter designed to power portable and energy-sensitive applications from ultra-low input voltage sources. With a 0.5V startup capability and 3.7A valley switch current limit, it provides exceptional performance for supercapacitor, Li-Ion, and multi-cell battery systems. Operating over a wide input voltage range of 0.5V to 5.5V, the TPS61023 can boost voltages to meet the power demands of wireless modules, IoT devices, and handheld electronics. The converter operates at a 1MHz switching frequency for VIN above 1.5V and smoothly transitions to 0.5MHz as VIN decreases, ensuring efficiency across the entire input range.

The device automatically enters Power-Save Mode (PSM) at light loads, drawing only 20µA quiescent current to maximize efficiency and extend battery life. In shutdown mode, it consumes just 0.1uA, completely disconnecting the input from the output for minimal power leakage. Built-in protections, including 5.7V output overvoltage protection (OVP), output short-circuit protection (SCP), and thermal shutdown, ensure reliable performance in harsh environments. Packaged in an ultra-small SOT-563 (1.2mmx1.6mm) footprint, the TPS61023 delivers high efficiency, robust protection, and minimal component count — ideal for compact power designs.

Key Features:

  • Ultra-Low Input Voltage: Operates from 0.5V to 5.5V for battery and supercapacitor systems.
  • High Current Capability: 3.7A valley switch current limit ensures strong power delivery.
  • High Efficiency: Maintains excellent conversion efficiency across load ranges.
  • Variable Switching Frequency: 1MHz (VIN > 1.5V) and 0.5MHz (VIN < 1.5V).
  • Low Quiescent Current: Only 20uA in light-load operation and 0.1µA in shutdown mode.
  • Power-Save Mode: Maximizes efficiency at light loads.
  • Comprehensive Protection: Includes OVP (5.7V), SCP, and thermal shutdown.
  • Compact Design: Requires minimal external components for small PCB footprint.
  • Tiny Package: SOT-563 (1.2mmx1.6mm) for space-constrained designs.
  • Applications: Ideal for portable electronics, supercapacitor backup power, IoT devices, wearables, and smart sensors.
