TPS54540DDAR – 5A, 42V High-Efficiency Buck Switching Regulator IC

The TPS54540DDAR is a high-performance 5A step-down (buck) DC-DC converter designed for industrial and automotive power systems requiring efficiency, flexibility, and reliability. Featuring an integrated high-side MOSFET and supporting a wide input voltage range up to 42V, the device efficiently steps down higher supply voltages to regulated lower outputs. Built to survive load dump pulses up to 45V (ISO 7637 compliant), it is ideal for automotive and rugged industrial environments. With current-mode control, the TPS54540 offers simple external compensation and flexible component selection, making it adaptable to a variety of design requirements. The device operates with a low ripple pulse-skip mode, reducing no-load supply current to just 146uA, and supports ultra-low shutdown current (2uA) for power-sensitive applications. The internally controlled startup ramp ensures smooth and reliable power-up without output overshoot. A wide switching frequency range allows designers to optimize between efficiency and solution size. Built-in cycle-by-cycle current limiting, frequency foldback, and thermal shutdown provide comprehensive protection against overload and fault conditions. Packaged in an 8-pin thermally enhanced SOIC PowerPAD, the TPS54540DDAR offers outstanding thermal performance, compact design, and reliable operation under demanding conditions.
