TPS5450DDAR – Buck Switching Regulator IC 5A SOIC-8

The TPS5450DDAR from Texas Instruments is a high-performance 5A step-down (buck) DC-DC converter designed to deliver efficient and reliable power regulation in industrial, communication, and embedded systems. Operating over a wide input voltage range of 5.5V to 36V, it is ideal for powering a broad range of low-voltage digital and analog loads from standard 12V or 24V rails. This device integrates a 110mohm high-side N-channel MOSFET to achieve efficiencies greater than 90% while minimizing external component count. Its internally compensated voltage-mode PWM control simplifies design and ensures excellent line and load transient performance. The internally fixed 500kHz switching frequency allows the use of smaller inductors and capacitors for compact, cost-effective power designs. The TPS5450 includes a high-performance voltage error amplifier, voltage feed-forward, and internally set slow-start for stable and controlled startup. It also incorporates full protection features such as cycle-by-cycle overcurrent limiting, overvoltage protection, thermal shutdown, and undervoltage lockout (UVLO). The ENA pin enables low-power operation with a typical shutdown current of just 18uA.

Key Features:

  • Wide Input Voltage Range: 5.5V to 36V for flexible system compatibility.
  • High Output Current: Up to 5A continuous (6A peak).
  • High Efficiency: Over 90% with integrated 110mΩ MOSFET.
  • Adjustable Output Voltage: Down to 1.22V with 1.5% initial accuracy.
  • Internal Compensation: Simplifies design and reduces external components.
  • Fixed 500kHz Switching Frequency: Supports small filter components and compact PCB layouts.
  • Low Shutdown Current: Only 18uA typical via ENA pin for power-sensitive applications.
  • Fast Transient Response: Voltage feed-forward enhances line regulation.
  • Comprehensive Protection: Includes OCP, OVP, UVLO, and thermal shutdown.
  • Compact and Thermally Efficient Package: 8-pin SOIC PowerPAD for improved heat dissipation.
  • Applications: Industrial control systems, communication equipment, automotive electronics, and distributed power supplies.
