TPS54331DR - 3A Non-Synchronous Buck Switching Regulator IC, 28V Input, SOIC-8 Package

The TPS54331DR from Texas Instruments is a high-performance 3A non-synchronous step-down DC/DC converter designed to deliver superior efficiency and stability in compact power supply designs. Operating over a wide 3.5V to 28V input range, this device integrates a low R DS(on) high-side MOSFET, enabling efficient power conversion with minimal external components. The pulse-skipping Eco-mode automatically optimizes light-load efficiency, making it ideal for both industrial and battery-powered applications. With a shutdown current as low as 1 uA, it ensures minimal power loss during standby operation.

Utilizing current mode control with internal slope compensation, the TPS54331 simplifies compensation design while allowing the use of low ESR ceramic output capacitors. It includes robust protection features such as cycle-by-cycle current limit, frequency foldback, overvoltage transient protection, and thermal shutdown to ensure system safety and reliability. An external resistor divider allows programming of the undervoltage lockout (UVLO) hysteresis for customized operation. Available in a standard SOIC-8 and SO PowerPAD package, the device offers excellent thermal performance, making it suitable for industrial control, communication equipment, and distributed power systems.

Key Features:

  • Wide Input Voltage Range: Operates from 3.5V to 28V for diverse power supply designs.
  • High Output Current Capability: Delivers up to 3A continuous current.
  • Integrated High-Side MOSFET: Low R DS(on) design improves efficiency and reduces heat.
  • Eco-mode Pulse Skipping: Maximizes efficiency at light loads.
  • Low Power Consumption: Only 1 uA shutdown current, ideal for battery-powered systems.
  • Current Mode Control: Simplifies external compensation and supports ceramic capacitors.
  • Programmable UVLO Hysteresis: Allows custom input voltage protection via resistor divider.
  • Comprehensive Protection: Cycle-by-cycle current limit, frequency foldback, thermal shutdown, and overvoltage transient protection.
  • Excellent Transient Response: Maintains stable output under dynamic load conditions.
  • Compact and Thermally Efficient Package: Available in SOIC-8 and SO PowerPAD for enhanced heat dissipation.
