TPS54302DDCR - 3A Synchronous Buck Switching Regulator IC, 4.5V–28V Input, SOT-23-6 Package

The TPS54302DDCR from Texas Instruments is a high-performance 3A synchronous step-down DC/DC converter designed for compact, efficient power solutions. Operating over a wide input voltage range of 4.5V to 28V, it delivers up to 3A continuous output current with excellent efficiency and thermal performance. Integrating both high-side and low-side MOSFETs, internal loop compensation, and a 5ms internal soft start, this converter simplifies design while minimizing external components.

The TPS54302 incorporates Advanced Eco-mode technology to optimize light-load efficiency and reduce overall power loss, making it ideal for low-power and battery-sensitive systems. Additionally, its frequency spread spectrum feature helps minimize EMI emissions for noise-sensitive applications. Protection mechanisms such as cycle-by-cycle current limiting, hiccup mode protection, low-side MOSFET current limit, and thermal shutdown ensure safe and reliable operation under all load conditions. The device’s 500kHz fixed switching frequency provides a balanced trade-off between efficiency and compact component size. Packaged in a SOT-23-6 (DDC) form factor, the TPS54302 achieves high power density and a small PCB footprint, suitable for industrial control systems, communications equipment, and consumer electronics.

Key Features:

  • Wide Input Voltage Range: 4.5V to 28V for flexible power system applications.
  • High Output Current: Supports up to 3A continuous current.
  • Integrated Power MOSFETs: 95mohm (high-side) and 57mΩ (low-side) FETs for high efficiency.
  • Advanced Eco-mode: Optimizes efficiency during light-load conditions.
  • Internal Compensation: Simplifies design and minimizes external component count.
  • Fixed 500kHz Switching Frequency: Provides a balance between performance and component size.
  • Internal 5ms Soft Start: Reduces inrush current during power-up.
  • Frequency Spread Spectrum: Reduces EMI noise for improved system reliability.
  • Comprehensive Protections:
  • Cycle-by-cycle current limit
  • Hiccup-mode overcurrent protection
  • Low-side current limit
  • Overvoltage protection (OVP)
  • Thermal shutdown (TSD)
  • Compact Package: SOT-23-6 package with excellent thermal characteristics for high power density designs.
