TPS54218RTER – 2A, 6V Synchronous Step-Down SWIFT Converter IC

The TPS54218RTER is a compact, high-efficiency 2A synchronous step-down (buck) DC-DC converter from Texas Instruments’ SWIFT family, designed to deliver precise voltage regulation in small, thermally efficient designs. Operating from an input voltage range of 2.95V to 6V, the device integrates both high-side and low-side 30mΩ MOSFETs, significantly reducing external component count while maintaining excellent efficiency. With its current-mode control architecture, the TPS54218 ensures fast transient response and stable operation across varying loads. The device supports switching frequencies up to 2MHz, minimizing the size of external inductors and capacitors for compact designs. Featuring a +-1% voltage reference (VREF) over temperature, it provides accurate and reliable output voltage regulation, ideal for precision power applications. Efficiency is further enhanced by a low 350uA typical supply current, while the shutdown current of 2uA enables low-power standby operation when disabled via the EN pin. Additional features include programmable undervoltage lockout (UVLO), soft-start control, and a power-good (PG) indicator that signals when the output is within 93%–107% of nominal voltage. Comprehensive protection mechanisms such as frequency foldback, cycle-by-cycle current limit, and thermal shutdown ensure safe operation under fault conditions.

Key Features

  • Wide Input Voltage Range: Operates from 2.95V to 6V for versatile power supply designs.
  • High Output Current: Supports up to 2A continuous load current.
  • Integrated 30mΩ MOSFETs: Delivers high efficiency and reduces external components.
  • Up to 2MHz Switching Frequency: Enables small inductors and capacitors for compact layout.
  • Accurate +-1% Voltage Reference: Ensures precise output regulation across temperature variations.
  • Low Power Consumption: 350µA typical supply current and 2uA shutdown current.
  • Programmable UVLO: Adjustable undervoltage lockout via resistor divider on EN pin.
  • Soft-Start Control: Manages inrush current during power-up for smooth startup.
  • Power-Good Indicator: Open-drain PG output signals when voltage is within tolerance.
  • Robust Protection: Includes frequency foldback, current limit, and thermal shutdown.
  • Compact 16-WQFN Package: 3mmx3mm thermally enhanced PowerPAD ensures superior heat dissipation.
