Description

The TPD12S016 is a single-chip High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) device with auto-direction detecting I2C voltage level shift buffers, a load switch, and low capacitance high-speed electrostatic discharge (ESD) transient voltage suppression (TVS) protection diodes. The HDMI power line is supplied by a 5-V output (5V_OUT) with a current limit of 55mA. The CT_HPD pin controls the 5V_OUT and the hot plug detect (HPD) circuitry independently of the LS_OE control signal, allowing the detection scheme (5V_OUT and HPD) to be active before the HDMI link is enabled. The SDA, SCL, and CEC lines connect to VCCA on the A side. On the B side, the CEC_B pin connects to an internal 3.3-V supply rail, while SCL_B and SDA_B connect to the 5-V rail (5V_OUT). The SCL and SDA pins meet I2C specifications and can drive capacitive loads of up to 750 pF, which exceeds HDMI 1.4 regulations. The HPD_B port includes a glitch filter to prevent erroneous detection due to plug bouncing during HDMI connector insertion. TPD12S016 has reverse current blocking on the 5V_OUT pin. When the system is turned off, the SCL_B, SDA_B, and CEC_B pins are also protected from reverse current.
