The SparkFun Serial MP3 Player Shield – MY1690X-16S is a versatile audio decoder board that makes it simple to add MP3 and WAV playback to any Arduino project. Designed around the MY1690X-16S audio IC, this shield allows you to store thousands of tracks on a microSD card (up to 32GB, FAT16/FAT32) and play them back with ease. With support for up to 65,536 tracks, the shield outputs audio through a 3.5mm TRRS headphone jack while providing reliable protection features like ESD diodes and a resettable fuse.
The shield communicates via a serial UART interface and includes an Arduino library to simplify commands such as Play, Pause, Next, Volume, and EQ control. A USB-C connector allows the microSD card to mount as a removable drive on a computer for direct file management, while status LEDs provide clear indicators for power and playback. Built on the Arduino Uno R3 footprint with passthrough headers, it integrates seamlessly into Arduino-based projects.
