Description

The OPT4048 High-Speed High Precision Tristimulus XYZ Colour Sensor from Texas Instruments serves as the foundation for the SparkFun Qwiic Mini Tristimulus Colour Sensor. This Mini Sensor has a high-resolution colour single-chip sensor that can measure four different channels, each having a unique designed spectral response. This tiny breakout board is just 0.5 inches by 1 inch and features two I2C Qwiic connectors to facilitate a more straightforward interface with the OPT4048. Since it's a component of SparkFun's Qwiic connect system, figuring out how things are oriented won't require any soldering. If you would rather utilise a breadboard, we still have broken out 0.1"-spaced pins available.

The CIE tristimulus spectra are closely matched by three of the OPT4048DTSR's four channels, while the fourth channel has a wide-band spectral response. Essential lighting environment parameters, such as (i) light intensity (lux), (ii) colour in CIE XY, LUV coordinates, and (iii) Correlated Colour Temperature, can be derived with observations from these channels. This helps with applications such as display brightness, colour temperature control, camera colour temperature correction, object true colour detection, and medical applications where precise lighting environment measurements are crucial.
