SparkFun Fingerprint Sensor with Secure Biometric Authentication and Qwiic Interface

The SparkFun Fingerprint Sensor – FPC2534 (Qwiic) brings professional-grade biometric authentication and intuitive touch navigation to embedded systems and SBC-based projects. Built around the advanced FPC2534 sensor from Fingerprint Cards AB, this module offloads all fingerprint processing from the host controller, handling enrollment, matching, encryption, and secure storage internally. This design significantly simplifies integration while maintaining a high level of security, making it ideal for access control systems, secure IoT devices, lockers, kiosks, and smart appliances.

Beyond biometric security, the FPC2534 also functions as a four-direction capacitive navigation controller with tap detection, allowing it to serve as both an input device and authentication solution. The board supports multiple communication interfaces, with I2C enabled by default through the Qwiic ecosystem, while SPI, UART, or USB can be selected via onboard configuration jumpers. Its low-profile form factor, durable matte surface, and onboard status LEDs make it well suited for both prototyping and production-ready designs.

Key Features:

  • Advanced Fingerprint Authentication: Onboard processing for enrollment, matching, and verification
  • Secure Template Storage: Stores up to 45 encrypted fingerprint templates in internal flash memory
  • Anti-Spoof Protection: Built-in measures against fake or replicated fingerprints
  • Touch Navigation Support: Four-direction navigation with tap detection for UI control
  • Multiple Interfaces: I2C (default), SPI, UART, and USB selectable via CFG jumpers
  • Qwiic Enabled: Dual Qwiic connectors for solder-free I2C integration
  • Compact and Durable Design: Low-profile sensor with matte-coated surface and grounded mounting bezel.
