The SparkFun Air Quality PM1/PM2.5/PM10 Sensor – BMV080 (Qwiic) is a next-generation particulate matter sensing solution built around Bosch’s BMV080, the world’s smallest PM sensor. Using an innovative fanless optical design with ultra-compact lasers and integrated photodiodes, the sensor measures particulate concentration directly in free space, enabling accurate, real-time detection of PM1, PM2.5, and PM10. Its extremely small footprint and low maintenance design make it suitable for space-constrained products such as wearables, smart home devices, portable air quality monitors, and embedded IoT systems.

Designed for modern low-power platforms, the BMV080 supports continuous and duty-cycled measurement modes with configurable output data rates. Qwiic I2C connectivity ensures easy integration with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and other 3.3V systems, while optional SPI support provides flexibility for advanced designs. With fast start-up time, adjustable I2C addressing, and Class 1 laser safety compliance, this sensor delivers actionable air quality data in a compact, developer-friendly form factor.
