Passive PoE Injector Cable Set – Simplify Power + Ethernet for DIY IoT Projects
The Passive PoE Injector Cable Set is a cost-effective way to combine power and Ethernet into a single cable for DIY and IoT projects. Unlike official PoE (Power-over-Ethernet) systems that require specialized routers and 48V power lines, this passive set is simple, affordable, and ideal for projects where you want to avoid messy wiring.
The kit includes two cables:
The injector cable merges power and Ethernet by feeding the DC supply (via a 2.1mm barrel jack) into unused Ethernet pairs (pins 4/5 for power, 7/8 for ground – Mode B).
The extractor cable separates the signals again, outputting Ethernet data to the RJ-45 plug and power to a 2.1mm barrel connector.
Perfect for boards like Arduino with Ethernet shields, Raspberry Pi with Ethernet, or other networked electronics, this set works best for 10/100 Mbps Ethernet connections. Please note these are not official PoE cables and must be used as a pair—connecting them directly to a PoE-enabled router will damage your device, since official PoE supplies 48V.
Key Features of Passive PoE Injector Cable Set
DIY-Friendly Power + Data Solution: Combines Ethernet and DC power into one cable.
Simple Injector + Extractor Pair:
Injector merges power into Ethernet cable.
Extractor splits power back out to a 2.1mm DC barrel jack.
Mode B Wiring: Pins 4/5 carry DC+, pins 7/8 carry ground.
Works with 10/100 Mbps Ethernet: Not compatible with gigabit Ethernet (pins in use).
Voltage Flexibility: Works with typical 5V–24V DC wall adapters (depending on your project needs).
Cable Length Impact: Expect ~1V drop per 25m (80 ft) at 500mA with standard 24AWG Ethernet cable.
Ideal for IoT & Embedded Devices: Perfect for powering microcontrollers, sensors, and small networked electronics.
Not Official PoE: Cannot be used with standard IEEE 802.3af/at PoE routers or switches.
