SparkFun – MyoWare 2.0 Muscle Sensor

The SparkFun MyoWare 2.0 Muscle Sensor is an advanced Arduino-compatible electromyography (EMG) sensor that allows users to measure and utilize muscle activity to control electronics, robotics, prosthetics, and interactive systems. Developed by Advancer Technologies, this innovative sensor enables direct muscle control without traditional input devices like buttons or joysticks. By measuring the electric potential generated by muscle contractions (sEMG), the MyoWare 2.0 provides real-time analog signals corresponding to muscle flex intensity. The harder the muscle flexes, the greater the output voltage. With its easy-to-use snap connector system, users can connect electrodes and shields without soldering — simply attach biomedical sensor pads (sold separately), connect power, and start reading muscle activity.

Featuring a compact, redesigned form factor, the MyoWare 2.0 is built for improved performance, reliability, and ease of integration with microcontrollers such as Arduino. It includes three output modes (Raw EMG, Rectified, and Envelope), adjustable gain, and reverse polarity protection. The modular design supports the MyoWare 2.0 ecosystem, allowing the addition of optional shields (Cable, Power, and LED) for extended functionality. Ideal for applications in robotics, human-computer interfaces, gaming, prosthetics, and biomedical research, this sensor offers an intuitive gateway into muscle-based control systems.

Key Features

  • All-in-One EMG Sensor: Measures and outputs muscle activity (surface EMG) without external amplification circuitry.
  • Easy Snap Connector System: No soldering required — snap-on electrodes and compatible MyoWare 2.0 shields effortlessly.
  • Wearable & Compact Design: Integrated electrode snaps allow direct attachment to muscle areas for cleaner signal acquisition.
  • Three Output Modes:

    • Raw EMG (unfiltered signal)

    • Rectified (absolute value of EMG)

    • Envelope (smoothed output representing muscle flex strength)

  • Adjustable Gain: Fine-tune signal sensitivity for different muscle groups and applications.
  • Reverse Polarity Protection: Ensures safe operation and device longevity.
  • LED Indicators: For power (VIN) and signal output (ENV).
  • Microcontroller Compatibility: Designed for Arduino and other microcontroller platforms.
  • Expandable with Shields: Compatible with MyoWare Power, Cable, and LED shields.
  • Ideal for: Robotics, prosthetics, gaming interfaces, biomechanics, and educational STEM projects.
