Industrial LoRaWAN Control Terminal for Reliable Long Range RS485 IoT Networks in EU868 Band
The LoRaWAN Control Terminal operating on the EU 868MHz band is designed for industrial and agricultural IoT deployments that require long range communication low power consumption and reliable field performance. It combines data acquisition logic processing and device control into a single compact unit making it suitable for distributed monitoring and automation systems.
This control terminal supports RS485 communication allowing seamless integration with industrial sensors meters and actuators. Optimised for the EU868 LoRaWAN frequency plan it enables secure wide area connectivity for smart agriculture remote monitoring energy management and industrial automation applications where wired connectivity is impractical.
Key Features
The LoRaWAN Control Terminal (868MHz) serves as a comprehensive Industrial IoT (IIoT) node, bridging the gap between actual field equipment and remote cloud platforms. This wireless controller, which operates on the 868MHz band (suited for Europe and other ITU Region 1 locations), streamlines complex telemetry projects by combining data gathering, logic processing, and device actuation into a single, DIN-rail mountable instrument. It is designed primarily for applications like as smart agriculture, building automation, and industrial monitoring, where dependable long-range connectivity and autonomous offline operation are required. This Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) provides a streamlined, cost-effective alternative to complex PLC and radio installations, enabling for rapid deployment in applications needing both sensing and control.
Stable Long-Range
Communication The wireless node, which is based on the standard LoRaWAN protocol, works seamlessly with both private gateways and public network infrastructure such as The Things Network (TTN). Using the 868MHz frequency, the gadget achieves deep signal penetration and long-range coverage. This connectivity provides consistent data transfer from remote places, such as agricultural parks or large industrial complexes, with transmission ranges of up to 4km in open environments, effectively eliminating the coverage constraints of typical Wi-Fi or cable cabling.
Hybrid Interface for Acquisition and Control
Unlike traditional sensors that simply transmit data, this IoT controller is equipped with a configurable interface array to handle both "Read" and "Write" activities.
Collection: The unit includes an RS485 interface for Modbus RTU sensors, a 0-10V analog input, and two optocoupler-isolated digital inputs. This enables the smooth integration of a variety of peripherals, including temperature transmitters, flow meters, and pressure sensors, without the need for additional adapters.
Control: The device's built-in Relay Output (24VDC/220VAC 3A) allows it to directly operate actuators. This functionality enables the system to turn on or off pumps, valves, alarms, or lighting systems based on received commands or local logic.
Edge Logic and Offline Autonomy
One distinguishing characteristic of this smart terminal is its capacity to execute control rules locally. Logical conditions can be set using a visual configuration interface (e.g., "If moisture < 20%, turn on relay"). This capability enables device linking and automatic alarm triggering without requiring constant cloud involvement. Crucially, the unit enables offline operation, which means that if the LoRaWAN network connection is broken, the controller will continue to execute its preset logic commands, guaranteeing that the local application's safety and stability are never compromised.
Seamless Integration with RS485 Sensors
This LoRaWAN Control Terminal is pre-validated with a diverse set of DFRobot industrial RS485 sensors, allowing you to quickly create complete monitoring systems.
DFRobot LoRaWAN Series

The DFRobot LoRaWAN product series focuses on "simplified development and efficient deployment," addressing situations such as learning, development, testing, and deployment while also providing developers with comprehensive low-power wide-area network (LPWAN) solutions.
Gateway: Embedded local MQTT server (SIoT) avoids the requirement for server configuration; supports Node-RED graphical programming for quick automation job creation.
Control Terminal: The multi-interface architecture (analog/digital input, RS485, relays) allows for both data acquisition and device control; it offers custom control rules and robust offline operation without network connectivity.
Development Board: Compatible with the Arduino ecosystem, with pre-built libraries and example code for a quick start; includes a screen, buttons, and other peripherals for real-time debugging without the need for external devices.
Node Module: Built-in LoRa/LoRaWAN protocol stack, support multi-platform graphical programming; supports standard I2C/UART interfaces, compatible with mainstream controllers such as Micro:bit, Arduino, and ESP32.
