Gravity: LoRaWAN Node Module (EU868) SX1262 Based, 4km Range for IoT & Agriculture

The Gravity LoRaWAN Node Module (EU868) is a high-performance wireless communication solution designed for long-range, low-power IoT deployments in outdoor and remote environments. Built on the SX1262 RF transceiver and LoRa modulation technology, it operates in the EU868 frequency band used across Europe and other compatible regions. The module supports both LoRa point-to-point (P2P) communication and LoRaWAN networking, offering flexibility for diverse network architectures. With reliable communication ranges of up to 1.2 kilometres in urban areas and up to 4 kilometres in open spaces, this module is well suited for agriculture sensor networks, environmental monitoring systems, and smart outdoor IoT applications requiring stable, energy-efficient data transmission.

Key Features

  • SX1262 LoRa RF Chipset – Delivers high sensitivity, stable performance, and low power consumption
  • EU868 Frequency Band Support – Suitable for Europe and other regions using the EU868 LoRa band
  • LoRa & LoRaWAN Protocol Support – Enables both point-to-point and LoRaWAN network deployments
  • Long-Range Wireless Communication – Up to 1.2km in urban areas and 4km in open environments
  • Low Power Operation – Ideal for battery-powered and solar-powered IoT nodes
  • Gravity Interface Design – Simplifies integration and plug-and-play deployment
  • Optimised for Outdoor IoT – Well suited for agriculture, environmental sensing, and smart infrastructure

Dual Communication Modes: LoRa & LoRaWAN

The module supports flexible switching between LoRa P2P and LoRaWAN protocols.

  • In LoRa mode, it supports direct one-to-one, one-to-many, many-to-one, and bridge communication.
  • In LoRaWAN mode, it supports both Class A and Class C operation and can be incorporated into networks such as The Things Network (TTN) and ChirpStack via ABP or OTAA activation techniques.

Reliable Long-Range Transmission

Equipped with an onboard PCB antenna and LoRa technology, the module provides:

  • 1.2 km effective range in urban areas.
  • 4 km effective range in open areas: The module provides consistent and dependable connection across broad outside regions, exceeding the power consumption and range limits of WiFi and 4G.

Low Power Consumption, Ideal for Battery-Powered Nodes

LoRa modulation technology enables ultra-low power operation, considerably increasing the battery life of distant sensor nodes when compared to WiFi or cellular-based solutions, making it ideal for long-term deployment in power-constrained applications.

Plug-and-Play with Wide Compatibility

No low-level protocol development is necessary. The module includes a full LoRa/LoRaWAN protocol stack and supports the Arduino IDE, Mind+, and MakeCode graphical programming environments.

  • Compatible with the micro:bit, Arduino, ESP32, and other 3.3V/5V development boards.
  • Standard I2C and UART interfaces make device integration easier.

DFRobot LoRaWAN Series

The DFRobot LoRaWAN product series focuses on "simplified development and efficient deployment," addressing situations such as learning, development, testing, and deployment while also providing developers with comprehensive low-power wide-area network (LPWAN) solutions.

  • Gateway: Embedded local MQTT server (SIoT) avoids the requirement for server configuration; supports Node-RED graphical programming for quick automation job creation.
  • Control Terminal: The multi-interface architecture (analog/digital input, RS485, relays) allows for both data acquisition and device control; it offers custom control rules and robust offline operation without network connectivity.
  • Development Board: Compatible with the Arduino ecosystem, with pre-built libraries and example code for a quick start; includes a screen, buttons, and other peripherals for real-time debugging without the need for external devices.
  • Node Module: Built-in LoRa/LoRaWAN protocol stack, support multi-platform graphical programming; supports standard I2C/UART interfaces, compatible with mainstream controllers such as Micro:bit, Arduino, and ESP32.

Applications

  • Agricultural monitoring: crop growth, soil condition, greenhouse temperature and humidity
  • Environmental data collection: weather stations, ecological zones, forest monitoring
  • Smart gardening: irrigation control, plant health tracking
  • Educational projects involving outdoor wireless networks and IoT prototyping.
