High-Precision 16-Bit Single-Channel SPI Digital-to-Analog Converter with Rail-to-Rail Output for Accurate Signal Generation in VSSOP-8 Package

The DAC8531E/2K5 is a precision 16-bit digital-to-analog converter designed for applications requiring highly accurate voltage output and low power consumption. Developed by Texas Instruments, this device features a single buffered voltage output channel with a versatile three-wire serial interface compatible with SPI, QSPI, Microwire, and DSP communication protocols, enabling seamless integration with microcontrollers and digital processing systems.

With 65,536 output levels and an integrated precision output amplifier, the DAC8531 provides rail-to-rail voltage output when used with an appropriate reference. The device requires an external reference voltage to define the output range, offering flexibility for different system requirements. Its built-in power-on reset ensures the DAC output starts at 0 V until a valid write command is received. Combined with an ultra-low power-down current, the DAC8531 is well suited for portable battery-powered instruments, industrial control systems, data acquisition equipment, and precision signal generation applications.

Key Features

  • 16-Bit Resolution – Provides 65,536 discrete output voltage levels for extremely accurate analog output.
  • Single DAC Channel – Ideal for precision voltage generation and calibration applications.
  • SPI-Compatible Serial Interface – Supports SPI, QSPI, Microwire, and DSP interfaces with clock speeds up to 30 MHz.
  • Rail-to-Rail Output Amplifier – Enables full output swing for maximum dynamic range.
  • External Reference Input – Allows flexible output voltage scaling based on system design.
  • Power-On Reset Circuit – Ensures output powers up at 0 V until a valid command is received.
  • Ultra-Low Power Consumption – Approximately 2 mW during operation and as low as 1 µW in power-down mode.
  • Power-Down Mode – Reduces current consumption to about 200 nA for energy-efficient designs.
  • Compact VSSOP-8 Package – Space-efficient surface-mount package suitable for high-density PCB layouts.
