The AP64500SP-13 from Diodes Incorporated is a high-efficiency, wide-input 5A synchronous step-down (buck) converter designed for robust performance, compact design, and exceptional EMI suppression. With an input voltage range of 3.8V to 40V, it is ideal for a wide range of industrial, automotive, and communication power supply applications. The device integrates a 45mΩ high-side and 20mΩ low-side MOSFET, delivering high conversion efficiency and low thermal losses while minimizing external component count. The AP64500 employs peak current mode control for fast transient response and ease of use. It is optimized for EMI reduction through a proprietary gate driver design that suppresses switching node ringing and minimizes high-frequency radiated noise. Additionally, frequency spread spectrum (FSS) technology introduces a +-6% jitter in the switching frequency (programmable from 100 kHz to 2.2 MHz) to further reduce EMI emissions.

This device maintains up to 85% efficiency at a light load of 5mA thanks to its low quiescent current of just 25µA in Pulse Frequency Modulation (PFM) mode, extending battery life and improving power efficiency in low-load conditions. Advanced protection features include undervoltage lockout (UVLO), output overvoltage protection (OVP), cycle-by-cycle peak current limiting, and thermal shutdown. Packaged in a thermally enhanced SOIC-8EP, the AP64500SP-13 offers excellent heat dissipation and reliability for high-performance power systems.
