Adafruit STSPIN220 Stepper Motor Driver Breakout Board: Precision Stepper Control with Ultra-Fine Microstepping

The Adafruit STSPIN220 Stepper Motor Driver Breakout Board is a compact, easy-to-use driver solution for precise stepper motor control in CNC machines, 3D printers, robotics, and automation projects. Designed around the STSPIN220 driver chip, this breakout supports 1.8–10V motor voltage, up to 1.3A per coil, and offers ultra-fine 1/256 microstepping capability—all controllable through a simple two-pin DIR/STEP GPIO interface. This makes it ideal for projects that require smooth, accurate motion without complex real-time microcontroller PWM setups. With built-in current limiting, terminal screw block connectors, and onboard indicator LEDs, the STSPIN220 breakout is both powerful and beginner-friendly.

Key Features:

  • STSPIN220 Stepper Driver Chip: Provides smooth microstepping and reliable performance with built-in overcurrent protection.
  • Wide Motor Voltage Range: Supports 1.8V–10V motor voltage for low-voltage stepper applications.
  • Logic Voltage Compatibility: Works with 3V–5V logic, making it compatible with Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi, and other SBCs.
  • High-Resolution Microstepping: Default 1/16 microstepping, configurable up to 1/256 microstepping via MS1/MS2 and reset control.
  • Simple 2-Pin Control: Use only DIR and STEP pins to control motor direction and stepping.
  • Built-in Current Limiting: Adjustable with onboard potentiometer, supporting up to ~1.3A per coil (2A peak max).
  • Onboard LEDs: Red/Green LEDs indicate direction; Yellow LED shows step activity for visual debugging.
  • Terminal Block Connections: Easy screw-terminal connections for motor power and 4-wire bipolar stepper motors (26–20 AWG, 2.54mm pitch).
  • Reset & Enable Lines: Low-power mode and easy driver deactivation options.
  • Pre-Installed Capacitor: 47µF 16V electrolytic capacitor on motor power for stable operation.
  • Mounting Holes: Four mounting holes for secure installation in prototypes or enclosures.
